Managing volume is real work, and this post names most of the tools teams

are reaching for. But there's a distinction buried in the solutions list

that matters.

Filtering and evaluating are not the same operation. Knockout questions

reduce volume. They do not assess fit. SLAs create accountability for

speed. They do not improve the quality of the decision being made under

that time pressure. AI ranking tools accelerate the order in which

candidates are reviewed. None of them change what a recruiter actually

knows about a candidate before that first call.

The result is faster processing of a problem that has not been solved.

Teams close the distance between "applied" and "contacted" without

meaningfully closing the gap between "contacted" and "right person."

Volume is a symptom. The underlying constraint is intelligence. How much

does a recruiter actually know before that first conversation starts? In

most high-volume environments, the answer is: not enough to have earned

the call.
